Solo 2nd Violin

Inkeri Vänskä

My Education: Sibelius Academy and The Royal Danish Academy of Music Diploma and Soloist Class.

My favorite musical composition: The operas of Richard Strauss, Puccini and Mozart. The 4th and 5th symphonies of Sibelius and Prokofiev’s Fifth. Mozart is undoubtedly unique, but there would be no life without Bach. He is the greatest.

My greatest musical experience: Sibelius’ 5th symphony with Esa-Pekka Salonen and Orkester Norden in 2002.
Beethoven’s 9th with the Australian Chamber Orchestra on tour in Australia in 2012- particularily the concert at Sydney Opera House which was sold-out, and where the audience exploded afterwards as if they were at a rock concert!
Mahlers 5th with Okko Kamu and Orkester Norden i 2001. The famous trumpet solo was played by Nikolaj Viltoft, who is now principal trumpet in the Kapel: who knew then that we would be playing in the same orchestra and in the same chairs,10 years later!
Countless evenings in the pit, whether we are playing Tosca, Der Rosenkavalier, The Marriage of Figaro or Die Frau ohne Schatten.

My most memorable/funny/unusual experience in the Kapel: Funny things happen in the Kapel EVERY evening. Our atmosphere is uniquely special.

When I’m not playing in the Kapel: Outside of ice-hockey (following) season, I can be found experimenting in the kitchen or playing som Jimi Hendrix on guitar.
