Kumi Shimizu

My education:    Bachelor and Master’s degree from Tokyo university of the Arts. In 2016, I moved to London to continue my studies at Royal Academy of Music, supported by the Isamu Sumino Foundation while playing as fellowship member in London Symphony Orchestra.

My favourite composition:   All works by Mozart and Brahms. Also many of the violin concertos by Beethoven, Sibelius, Berg, Stravinsky, Saint-Saëns, Chausson’s Poemé, Eugen Onegin by Tchaikovsky….the list goes on and on!
My greatest musical experience:  Masterclasses with legendary professors, such as J.J. Kontorow, Z. Bron, V. Tretiakov and L. Kavakos. These are totally unforgettable experiences. Also collaborating with amazing musicians are always the most happiest moments for me.
My most memorable/funny/unusual experience in the Kapel: I will never forget the Nielsen concert with our chief conductor A. Vedernikov   in September 2020,  and Carmen, my first show with Kapel which was also conducted by Vedernikov. Otherwise, Kapel has lots of funny experiences/episodes on a daily basis!

When I am not playing in the Kapel: I love playing chamber music with nice colleagues, exploring violin works which I haven’t played before, taking a walk through beautiful Copenhagen and cooking something sweet.
