Brit Målfrid Groven Halvorsen
My education: Royal Danish Conservatory, Conservatoire national supérieur musique et danse de Lyon, and Carnegie Mellon University.
My favorite musical composition: Strauss’ Rosenkavalier and Die Frau ohne Schatten, Brahms Symphonies, the 2nd movement from Prokofievs violin concerto nr. 2 and Shostakovich symphonies 8. og 9.
My greatest musical experience: One of the best in recent memory was a concert of Schubert’s Octet at a chamber music festival in Stavanger in 2014. It was such a unique interpretation with amazing contact between the 8 musicians. I was completely blown away by the expression and force of the performance
My most memorable/funny/unusual experience in the Kapel: My most memorable experience in the Kapel was actually when I was hired as an assistant to play Die Frau Ohne Schatten (before I won my permanent position). The overwhelming energy in the pit during the premier made me fall in love both with the orchestra and with playing opera
When I’m not playing in the Kapel: I spend most of my time with my husband and our beautiful daughter who is currently one year old. I also travel back to Norway quite often to visit family and get a good dose of the beautiful Norwegian nature and skiing.
