Helena Højgaard Nielsen

My Education: At the age of 5 I began with my father, violin pedagogue Erling Vagn Nielsen. I continued with Niels Christian Øllgaard, Esbjerg and then six years with Marianne Granvig, Odense. Diploma from The Royal Danish Academy of Music with Michael Malmgreen and Artist Diploma with Milan Vitek, Oberlin, Ohio.

My favorite musical composition: I’m particularly fond of Itzak Perlman’s recording of the Brahms violin concerto from 1992 with the Berlin Philharmonic.

When I’m not playing in the Kapel: I enjoy spending time in nature and going for a quick run in Copenhagen’s many parks. When time allows, there’s nothing better than being in the countryside with horses, wide open spaces and fresh air for the soul.
