Henrik Goldschmidt
My education: 1976-79, The Fynske Conservatorium of Music, with Prof. Jørgen Hammergård. 1981-1983, the Karajan Academy in Berlin, with Prof. Lothar Koch.
My favorite musical composition: La Boheme (Puccini), Four last songs (Richard Strauss), Eroica (Beethoven), Mariage of Figaro (Mozart), St. Matthew Passion (Bach), Urlicht (Mahler) and of coarse the songs of Leonard Cohen, Sting and Freddie Mercury.
My greatest musical experience: To play music with children. To play with Karajan. The Royal Danish Orch. with Sir Georg Solti, 16th Jan. 1989 (Schuberts 5th Symphony & Shostakovich 8th). Rosenkavalier with Helena Döse. Pavarotti concert in 198. Valkyrie with Placido Domingo.
My most memorable/funny/unusual experience in the Kapel: The Australian tour with Paavo Berglund in 1987 was an adventure. We played an outdoor concert at sunset whilst parrots and cockatoos sang along to Tchaikovsky’s 4th Symphony. The Magic Flute - with Victor Borge conducting - was an unforgettable trip of survival, filled with orchestral manoeuvres in order to hold the ensemble together during the performance, which was a great success.
When I’m not playing in the Kapel: I run a musik school in Nørrebro, “Goldschmidts Academy of Music”, which is free for all children. www.mellemostskolen.dk I also play with my musical peace-band, “The Middle East Peace Orchestra”.
