Jonas Wiik
My education: Royal Conservatory in Stockholm 1989-1994 with Mark Schrello, Malmö Conservatory 1994-1996 with Christer Nilsson and Håkan Hardenberger, and private studies with Vincent Cichowicz and Arnold Jacobs.
My favorite musical composition: Thats a tough one. All of Bach’s music, but especially the Goldberg variations. From the world of opera I would have to say Parsifal. Prokofieff’s Romeo og Julie is definitely my favourite ballet, and Mahler 2 is my favourite symphony.
My greatest musical experience: That would have to be at the Schleswig Holstein music festival where I got to play Sacre du Printemps and Schostakovich 5th symphony with Valery Gergiev.
My most memorable/funny/unusual experience in the Kapel: My first symphony concert with the Kapel, in which we played Mahler’s 1st.
When I’m not playing in the Kapel: I perform a lot of chamber music and often play with Athelas sinfonietta. I also teach the next generation of trumpeters at the Royal Danish Conservatory. If there is any time left after that then I love golf, sailing, and coaching my son’s football team.
