Kasper Smedegaard Thaarup
My education: Completed studies at the Royal Danish Academy of Music in 1999 and solo class in 2002 with Torbjörn Kroon. Private studies with Michael Mulcahy (Chicago), Arnold Jacobs (Chicago), Rex Martin (Chicago), Jonas Bylund (Stockholm/Hannover).
My favorite musical composition: La Boheme.
My greatest musical experience: Playing with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra under Mariss Jansons. We played Dvorak’s 8th symphony (2007).
My most memorable/funny/unusual experience in the Kapel: During Tosca in 2011, an entire curtain fell into the pit at the beginning of the opera and covered the whole bass section. Very entertaining- I think the whole section survived without any injuries.
When I’m not playing in the Kapel: Kayaking with Sundby Kajakklub. Private teaching. I enjoy being with my family - my daughter Ella, son Alban and lovely partner Nanna : )
